Thanks For Coming...and Do Come Again

Image
The Holiday Art Tour was a busy day in Willow. Many of us were busy tending art studios and bazaars while others were preparing for the WACO Community Dinner. Thanks to all who were working behind the scenes to make the events available. I've had several people ask if WillowAK Pottery is still available. Yes, it is.  If you want to come by between now and Christmas, send me a text or call to arrange a time that works for us both. (907-360-3696)  It was good to see friends and to meet visitors new to the studio.  Also good to have had the help of grandson Hunter and his friend Jenna; they who handled sales, giving me an opportunity to interact with shoppers. Although a lot of pieces went out the door to new homes, the shelves are still well populated This bowl is holding 8 cups of water to indicate its capacity. Platters, trays, bowls and more.   Whiskey cup set, people pots, and bacon cookers. The front entry shelving unit. Moose, fox, and fauna on pie plates. If you...

Mid-October...time to think of pottery for holiday gifting

Image
Today I unloaded a kiln of newly glazed pieces. Some were special orders, some are refired pieces, most are unspoken for as of now, so check and see if something speaks to you. As I've said before, there's nothing here that you NEED, but there are probably pieces you'd enjoy having or giving. Images should enlarge for you, depending on the technology you are using. If they don't, just think big or ask me to send you larger images so you can see more detail. First... a view I'm enjoying these days. These pearls of water stay all day on branches.  Fascinating and a mystery to me. How does this happen? A new collection of goodies.  Bacon cookers are available again,  along with cover dishes. Whimsical moose have joined the lineup,  as have serving bowls. Smaller moose, jumping fish,  and more serving bowls are back. A small pitcher, large fruit bowl, ladle, artsy dish,  serving dish, and one lonely fox. Do you see her? A few mugs, a tumbler, a couple trays,...

The August Firing Is Unloaded ... Just in time!

Image
I remember saying that there would be an August firing...and it happened, just barely.  Clay takes its time drying in high humidity. I'll say no more, other than it was nice for the sun to show up so I could get some outdoor photos.  So, I do have images of new work to share; some pieces are special orders, some yet available. Let me know if something here is of interest to you. If nothing else, you know there's still some pottery getting made at WillowAK during this crazy summer of rain or shine in lengthy doses. Hope it's been a good summer for you! Tureen and matching ladle Other ladle options Bunny in a bowl Hefty ladle Black and blues Neither one size nor shape fits all The people pots are back Considering a refire on this pale one I learned a lot from the fox pot Liking the new green glaze Tart tray, little pitchers, wee plates Bunny outside a bowl Don, how's the handle on the far right? A little whimsy...with fun results Merlot or black cherry on the rim? More b...

Hope you, too, enjoyed the July 2022 Willow Garden Tour!

Image
We enjoyed meeting many new Willow Garden Tour visitors yesterday. Birch practiced her greeting manners at WillowAK Pottery and the weather did cooperate!    Hope all who participated did enjoy seeing beautiful lawns, plants, flowers, veggies, art, and more throughout the tour. Thanks to all who planned, prepared, and participated in this annual event that showcases beauty in our community. The sites and sights varied widely, each displaying different interests, preferences, and beauty.  If you missed the tour this summer, consider trying to find time for it next year and enjoy the rest of Summer 2022, helping others to do so as well.
Coming Soon...Open Studio Event on Saturday, July 23,  as part of the Willow Garden Tour. Mark your calendar TODAY.  The gardens are always gorgeous! I am pleased to complement the beauty of the gardens by offering an open pottery studio day where "Pieces With Personality" are displayed and available to those wanting to welcome a new piece of art to their home. For the most part, you will find pottery that is functional and fun to own. Stop by between 10:00 and 5:00 on Saturday, July 23, while out enjoying the beauty of Willow gardens. Soon, I will post images of new work from the kiln. Do come back for a look.  Meanwhile, previous blog posts listed here will give you a look at pieces created at WillowAK Pottery.  Do scout about.

The Magic of May

Image
There's something magical about the transition from winter to summer in Willow.  Today, the lake is filled with some ice and some open water; about half the ground has snow covering, yet the rhubarb and ferns are up; and Keith has pallets of plants hardening off by being outside during the day and inside at night. Gardening and landscaping genes are certainly within him.  Potential,  progress, optimism and hope prevail. My report today is mostly about new pieces of pottery recently unloaded in the studio.  Click on the images to enlarge them; at least that's how it works on my computer. 😊   Special order . . .  now with new owner Mugs of multiple shapes, sizes, and colors Mugs similar in design with different handles Mugs in new glaze color Berry bowls with saucers Botany on pie plates Fun with rims Bacon cooker...now "out of stock" with more to be made Medium-sized bowls...cereal, ice cream, veggies? Yarn bowls for those who knit and crochet Fish or...
