August 22, 2014

It is one of those weeks where I'm not doing much in the studio, but am having some other fun experiences.  Monday I refreshed my training in how to tend the Willow Creek Studio for Joan and Scott, who are engaged with wedding activities this week. Also stopped to shelve books at the library, where staff is busy with inventory, a time-consuming task. Tuesday evening the Iditaquilters met and there were so many "show and tells" that we never did get to the  paper piecing program, so that will now happen in October.  Lots of beautiful work is created by the talented quilters in this area. Wednesday the knitting group met at our home; never a shortage of conversation when we gather.  Nice to have this weekly "meeting" to stay on top of community news.  Thursday a small group gathered for a fun stepping stone workshop. Designed our stones and fastened whatever was being adhered to them, and will return in a couple of weeks to do the grouting.  I brought a box of broken porcelain mugs from the studio to add to the stones, glass, tile, and other materials being incorporated into the stones. Some ladies were preserving memories  -- a beloved pet, running medals, collector pins, etc. -- another creating a stone to match her newly painted red front door, and some claimed to just place things on the concrete base to see what happened!  Today, Keith and I are heading north to see the Caswell Lake area -- and to meet an artist there whose work has fascinated me for some time.
Tomorrow -- throwing pots.  I'm ready to return! Did make a cream and sugar set and trimmed the mugs I threw at the Willow Studio Art Tour last Saturday, but that's the extent of my studio work this week.  Have a new list of requested pieces and will start with those. Then -- on to other forms. Using new porcelain from the bag and always enjoy working with beautiful clay!

There's something kind of nice about the start of school and folks returning to routines and schedules. Even nicer that I'm not one of the folks doing so.  :-)    May add a photo or two here later, but just wanted to post what's been going on this week.

Enjoy your weekend!
