Still liking the simplicity and richness of this glaze combo!
When's the last time you worked on something for hours and accidentally deleted it all?  Just happened to me, and it's been many years since I carelessly took a fatal action while the whole document was highlighted -- and then couldn't figure out how to backtrack to retrieve the work I'd done.  Guess it means "overs" for this blogger.

First things first.  Enjoyed a recent visit from Anchorage friends who came up for an afternoon. Still seems strange to have time in the middle of the day for six adults to get together for a leisurely lunch and conversation -- on a week day! No photos. When we hit 90, the photos may begin again!

Had a great weekend with Jon's family, including  a quick stop in by Sara's family on their return from camping. Sunday was a nice float on Willow Creek with my three fellow floaters:

Jon on the oars.

Otter on watch -- when not snoozing
Else on the fishing.
The weekend activities involved the pontoon raft, inflatable raft, paddle boat, kayak, tubes, wood burning, church, sleeping out on the lake, reading, landscaping, and lots of visiting to catch up on family news --and future plans. Ben's big news is a broken right arm that will be in a cast for six weeks.  Noah's big news is the near-completion of a long board he has been building. The wheels and varnish go on this week!
A busy summer!

Now, to the purpose of this posting:  YES, the Willow Tour of Art Studios is a sure thing for Saturday, August 16, 11:00 A.M. until 4:00 P.M.  Start at Willow Creek Studio and Art Gallery at mile 69.5 on the Parks Highway, where you'll get any updates as well as directions to the various personal studios on the tour.  While there, check out the work of featured artists Scott Thompson and Penni Cross.  Scott will probably have the chips flying outside while doing his incredible carvings!

Then head out to the participating personal studios, each of which is about a five-minute drive from Willow Creek Studio. You'll find a glass artist at work, spinners spinning fiber, and a potter spinning a potter's wheel. Get an inside look at the process these artisans go through to create their original, unique art.  There will be an opportunity to ask questions and to purchase items at each studio.  Have fun, support the arts, and enjoy your day.

In preparation for this event is new work on the shelves at WillowAK Pottery. It was suggested that I occasionally provide price info in the blog, so I'm doing that this time. Please know, however, that if you see a piece that you want to know more about, you can always send a message and I'll be happy to provide details and more photos.  Remember, too, that you'll find WillowAK pottery at many area shops and galleries, including: Willow Creek Studio, Town Square Art Gallery, All I Saw Cookware, NonEssentials, Sourdough Mercantile, The Tangled Skein, and The Quilted Raven.  Here's a look at what recently came out of the kiln:

Time to clear some "Pieces With Personality" off the carts to make room for the work I plan to do this fall and winter. Pottery and knitting are hobbies I love; have no intention of giving them up until I must for some reason.  What you see in the photos above are creations I've enjoyed making -- and will gladly send off to new homes where they will be used and appreciated.  They are not for everyone and certainly are not necessities in life; but if you, too, like the look and feel of pottery in your home and/or cozy, comfy clogs on your feet -- or like giving such items as a special gift -- do come by for a look.

And, do visit the other studios, too, on August 16.  We welcome this opportunity to show you what we do, how we do it, and why we do it. Thanks for your interest and for encouraging the arts in Willow!  It would be good to hear from other studio artists who may want to be on the tour in 2015.
