Dahlias, Run, Plane, and oh yes...Pottery

The best news to share is that Bill and Kathy Mailer's beautiful dahlia plants will be available at WillowAK Pottery on Saturday the 27th -- a special fundraiser for the Willow Library!  If you were lucky enough to get plants here last year, you know what healthy plants the Mailers grow. They'll be set up under a canopy again, ready to provide a win-win with plants:  those who purchase will be investing in beautiful dahlia plants, and the Grow Your Library fund, thanks to Bill and Kathy's hard work and generosity, will get a nice boost. We want that fund to grow, grow, and grow some more so that Willow will eventually have a beautiful library better equipped to serve the community.

Speaking of fundraisers for the Willow Library, remember the 10:00 a.m. Fun Run on Saturday morning, too. Registration can be done ahead -- or on the morning of the run. Think cookies... t-shirts...and an energetic way to start your day with a run or walk if you're up to it.  There will be plenty of time for studio stopping and shopping after your run/walk!

If you've ever cleaned a pottery studio for visitors, you know it's a big job! Today the glaze buckets, tools, and carts got a good hosing down on the deck, and the studio floor was mopped. One of several moppings between now and Saturday.  While working on that, one of our neighbors brought his plane in close on the lake -- the first I've seen him on the water this year.  Love to watch Walt skillfully taxi and take off throughout the summer.

OK, I guess it's time to post the pottery photos promised.  Maybe it will give you a better idea of what to expect in the way of pottery selections when you stop by on Saturday.  We are expecting nice
weather and a great turnout.  Hope you can join us -- at your own pace and in whatever order you'd like for visiting the four studios participating.   Sample "pieces with personality" awaiting you:

A plaque to welcome your guests

Alaskan-sized ornaments... wall art...or mobile pieces?

Rustic glaze combo -- two pitchers and a versatile cylinder

And, a matching serving bowl

A variety of platters for everyday use and for entertaining

Mugs...each unique...over 70...take your time selecting

Of course there is LOTS more pottery, the beautiful work of Bill, Melinda, and Joan you can see in the previous blog posts, and the fine work of many other area artists in the other three studios.  Don't miss out on all these goodies. There's probably nothing here you NEED to have, but come, enjoy and treat yourself or another if you are so inclined. Do some relaxed gift shopping among friends and neighbors. It is a fun day!
