Iditarod Restart Today . . . and still moving snow, LOTS OF SNOW!

I am sitting in our living room while 57 dog teams and their mushers, about a mile away, are soon to start their exciting and challenging trip to Nome. The snow on our deck is deeper than I am tall. Can't see the lake.  Can't see the opposite shoreline. Can't see the road at the end of the driveway. Crazy. And, the snow is still coming down. We do have guests who needed to get to the Community Center for the restart, so Keith and his friend John Deere blew snow in the morning to make that possible, and he continued blowing snow throughout the day. Our guests headed out and hopefully arrived safely at the restart to carry out an Iditarod-related responsibility. Yes, I am opting to watch on TV this year. KYES, channel 5.  Yesterday it was MN State Hockey Tournament viewing, which was awesome; today it will be Iditarod viewing, which will also be great. The experience of being at the restart in person is special, but after having done that many years since 1973, my preference today is to cozy up to the fireplace and TV, listen carefully to the fine announcers, and enjoy the event from the comfort of home. Yes!  Meanwhile, Keith is still with John Deere trying to keep up with the snowfall so a car can drive back in later this evening.

Multitasking, too. Forgot in the last post to include this image of a large serving bowl (12") and ladle.  Yes, the ladle accommodates both lefties and righties.

Floating blue glaze with mountain scene suggested.

And this next project was a fun one for me. Won't say where these mugs will reappear, but it's a very special event in Seward next weekend. Anyone interested in mugs or any other pottery for an event or for gifting should let me know well in advance. I'm about to start another cycle of work and am happy to accept requests.

Twenty-nine mugs and a dog dish. Ultramarine with snowflakes and date!

Recently, I attended a fine workshop by ceramic artist Sue Tirrell of Montana.  Looking forward to trying some of the techniques that she does so beautifully.

Sue embellishing with design, underglazes, carving, and fine creative talent!

I also enjoyed seeing a State High School Nordic Ski Tournament race recently to cheer on grandson Noah; had plans to attend the Arctic Winter Games in Whitehorse next week, but learned yesterday that they have been canceled. Sorry that grandson Ben will miss this opportunity for which he and many others have been preparing for many months... some for two years. Coronavirus concerns.

OK, this multitasking is not working as well as I thought it would. The dogs and commentary are calling for full attention. I'm recording the telecast so the man out on his John Deere can see it later when he and his tractor run out of gas. The dogs are so excited, happy, and eager to go.  The snow continues to blanket the crowd, all with hats and hoods in place.   What a unique event for very dedicated followers in Willow and beyond...worldwide!

More about pottery in the next post!  Happy Birthday, today, to Ruth Goltz, doing well in MN at 97!
