November 2024....time to prepare new work for holiday shoppers

A new batch of clay has arrived, the "to do" list has grown, and it's time for the potter to focus.

Much as I love studio time, I am doing less of it these days.  Too many other community involvements, perhaps,  one distraction after another, and yes, the pace and productivity have slowed. After this weekend of CERT training, my goal is to shuffle priorities a bit to spend more time with clay....new ornament designs, nativity sets, mugs, trays and bowls of many sizes, butter crocks, and more. Have some colored clay accents to try and there is a growing list of requests to address, including some promised donations.  So, you ask, why are you sitting at the computer typing? Too late for clay tonight.

Hmmm....maybe I should make this blog a progress report of what I'm getting done in the studio each day. Can't start until Monday, but will give it a try next week. I do like lists and the satisfaction of a ✅.

  • Monday:  Veterans Day, recuperating from two-day CERT training over the weekend, and still treating end-of-gout flareup.
  • Tuesday:  slipped into studio to try out a few new ornament designs.  Not a fan, yet. Selected capelet pattern to knit, so will select the yarn for getting that project on the needles. MatSu Borough Library Board mtg. in afternoon.
  • Wednesday: Anchorage appts. and errands.  Yes, including several hours in Costco.
  • Thursday: A couple of Zooms (knitting, and Willow Library Assoc.) Tired.
  • Friday: Laundry, prep for sourdough loaves, HVAC annual maintenance check, lots of knitting. Back and neck have been hurting...so clay work was not in the cards. So, failed to make studio progress during the week, and that continued to be the case over the weekend, although I did bake loaves, finished the capelet, completed The Book About Getting Older by Lucy Pollok, and started The Midnight Library by Matt Haig.  Low energy continues. Maybe more sleep would help. 😞  Feeling there are things needing to be done that are not getting done. Am I the only one?  Common or normal?

Here's our new card:

If you have questions or would like to discuss a special order for holiday giving, please get in touch soon. As you know, there are many steps involved in creating "pieces with personality" out of wet clay; rushing the process is seldom successful. At the rate I'm working these days, completion of a cycle of work is taking longer than usual.  Hopefully, next week will be more productive. I will try to do better with prioritizing and hope for more Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah.
