The snow continues to fall in Willow; it's beautiful to look at, but time consuming for the man here who runs the tractor, snow blower, and multiple shovels. Picked up another ten shear bolts for the John Deere so he's good to go for awhile -- and never complains. Daytime temps mostly in the 20's, we're on watch for snow slides off the metal roofs, and we're getting accustomed to having the Barefoot Contessa keep us company during lunch.  In the past week I enjoyed our 48th wedding anniversary, Valentine's Day, knitting birthday socks, making seed tapes at Willow Garden Club, and doing a glaze firing. Retirement seems good!

Lots of mugs in the recent kiln, since I'm still working on a request for many mugs.  One more glaze firing and I'll have that request filled.  I'm including in this blog some images I posted on WillowAK Pottery's Facebook page to show samples from the recent firing.

Donation for Jr. Iditarod
The large platter I originally intended as a donation did not make it through the bisque firing.  My error -- it should have dried longer before being asked to survive the heat of the kiln.  So, this is the replacement piece being donated to the silent auction.

Am trying to incorporate some images related to mushing into my work since Willow is the official starting point of the famous Iditarod Sled Dog Race -- a unique and challenging event.  Folks around here do love their dogs.  Our first dog was an Alaskan Malamute, Kenai, purchased in Minnesota, but we've had Golden Retrievers ever since: Kiska, Skilak, Kiana, Canoe, Camai, and Cedar.

The big news this week is that I'm now set up with a Square card reader so can accept credit cards -- and yes, I'm creating a system for gift certificates, as well.  So, when it's time for gift giving -- birthdays, weddings, births, anniversaries, holidays, or any time you want to say "Thanks" or "Thinking of You," pottery with personality may be a convenient gift option for you -- whether in Willow or elsewhere.  A self-selected gift is likely to be a pleasing gift.  Recipients can use gift certificates for WillowAK Pottery items online or in the studio. Items can be personalized if enough advance notice is given.

The kiln works well, the glazes are fine, and the potter is having a good time.  Prices and dimensions will be posted here soon, but since I promised to post photos, I want to get these online.
